A week of Sadness
This last week has been a time of sadness and grieving with families.
As most of you know 46 kids have passed away in the ABC daycare fire. Shelli, having worked as a child life therapist in the Alberta Children’s Hospital, is trying to start a program here for the kids who remain with severe burns. Burn treatments can last a long time with surgeries, skin grafting, etc. etc. Child life thereapists help children deal emotionally, mentally and  physical with the pain of these treatments by providing programs through games, music thereapy, puppets, play therapy, etc. There is no such discipline here in Hermosillo. Our goal is to train locals from the church in these areas and work with the families. This would also give us a chance to minister to them spiritually.
So far Shelli has been in contact with the Sacramento Burn center where some of the children were transfered and she has talked about the treatment with the Child life thereapist there. She also had a meeting with our pediatrician regarding how to get the program into the hospitals here. Dr, Bustamante our Ped. was one of the Drs. called into the hospital in the emergency of the fire. He treated 3 children. Only one made it.Â

Preparations for several funerals for the 46 that have passed on.
On Thursday Greg received a phone call from Marcela in our church, her nextdoor neighbor’s mom was very sick in the hospital and Greg was asked to visit her. He prayed for her and found out that she passed away minutes later. Now to minister to that family.
Saturday, Shelli heard screams somewhere on their block and thought their was a bad marital dispute. Yesterday, through a phone call, Greg and Shelli found out that the screams came from a woman whose kids had attended our latest children’s club. Saturday night her husband fell with a massive heart attack. He was just in his early 40’s. Her screams were out of desperation as she ran the street looking for help.
Last night we walked around the corner (only just finding out that the family lived so close to us) and prayed with the mom, Maria Elena. She fought back tears and held her little 3 year old. From the door her 5 and 8 year old peaked out. Greg and Shelli held her and prayed.
It is important the we can be Christ’s hands, feet, mouth. In situations, like the last three written here, we do not have all the answers, but God knows suffering and pain. Pray with us as we seek His direction in ministering to others in His love.
Blessings, Â Shelli
