Storm, Skit and Students
Rain is always welcome in the desert, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t overdo it sometimes. Here in Hermosillo there are few storm sewers. It doesn’t rain all that often and I guess they just aren’t as urgent as other infrastructure needs in the middles of the desert. So when it rains and the wind blows like it did last Sunday night, there are issues. Here are a couple photos (from the local newspaper El Imparcial) of what happens here in Hermosillo when it rains hard. The wind did a lot of damage too…
Our house is below street level and thus before moving in 3 years ago we built up the sidewalk and made a ramp where we park our vehicles to keep the water out. The former owners told us about how their place would become a 2 foot deep swamp when it rained hard. Inside and outside the house. Kind of a once a year thing. Obviously, we found this to be a bit disconcerting… So, like I said, we made some modifications to the place. On nights like Sunday night we were thankful for putting in the effort to protect our place. Many in our city had soggy situations in their homes. The church building did pretty well except for the wind gust that ripped the huge steel doors from the concrete pillars at the entry to our parking lot. The following photo is looking out our front window at the river…
This is what our back yard looked like… We were thankful for the sump pump we put in for moments like this…
Here is are a couple photos of the damage to the doors to the church parking lot…Â Pacho and David got them welded on the posts yesterday!
The same gust of wind that took of these 800 lbs. doors took down a block wall at the neighboring school…
Enough about the weather!
A couple days ago I came across a video from our Mission Canada trip three years ago. It is the drama we presented everywhere we were with the group. A powerful reminder of what following Jesus is about. Watch it here…
As a church we are very excited to be sending a couple of wonderful young ladies to Bible School this fall. Alejandra and Nahyl will be heading to Ensenada, Mexico later this week. Please pray that God would use this time of focused Bible learning and discipleship to prepare them for what He is calling them to do with their lives for His glory. Here is Nahyl (with Alejandra on the left)sharing how she has sensed God leading her to go to Bible College…
I will sign off for now. Thank you so much for your prayers. Please pray for our family as home-schooling starts next week.
Grace and peace from Mexico!
