Update- Project Smiles, Hermosillo Daycare fire
We now have a few weeks working with 4 of the children from the daycare fire. The good news is that three of the kids have gone home and we will continue to follow-up with home visits. We are still working with a 4 year old boy who had severe burns to his legs and stomach. We have been able to do distraction therapy with him in the tub as they remove his bandages and then again in his bed as they put new bandages on. We play and laugh, a big difference from the first day when he screamed throughout the whole process, but we were not in the room and only listened to his cries from the other side of the door.
We will continue to help the family when they head home with this little guy next week. They have rented a house near the houspital (which is near to us). Christy will assistlp with the many dressing changes that will be needed. This family is mormon.
We do not feel that we are any farther along in getting this therapy into the State Children’s hospital. Upon presentation everyone is behind it, but nobody has the authority, so it seems, to move the program. PRAY THAT WE WILL BE PATIENT FOR GOD’S TIMING.
We are still trying to get a list from the social worker who is working with us with regards to the families who have lost children. With this list we can conitnue with the plan to invite family members to a supper and give them a gift package and minister to their deep aches.Â
In all we are very content with the ministry/therapy that God has put before us. Christy is a natural and I know will do a wonderful job! She was very encouraged last week when we went to Phoenix to the burn center. We had a tour by the Child Life Therapy Specialists and one of the head Dr.s . This Dr. also put us in touch with the head Dr. in Guadlajara where several of the children from this fire are being attended to and to the Mexican burn society. Both connections will help a lot.
So we ask you to continue to pray…pray for oportunities to pray with people, give them a book or two if it is God’s plan, encourage them and minister to their hearts.
Thanks for blessings us by serving together in this way.
