Are we safe?
We have been getting the question “is it safe there?” often lately as the news media report of the drug war here in Mexico. I read an article refered to by a missionary friend who lives in Mexico City that gives a few statistics on the situation here. Basically, if you are not a drug dealer or a member of the police force you are safe as you would be anywhere else in the western world (sad to hear of the pastor shot in the pulpit in Illinois lately). The “war” is very much confined to people involved in the drug trade. There have been very few innocent bystanders affected by the violence which, by the way, is very focused on three border cities, Tijuana, Ciudad Juarez and Nuevo Laredo. We’re in Hermosillo, 3 hrs from the US border.Â
We also trust in that God takes care of the security of His children and so we go about our lives using common sense and the wisdom God provides and leave what we can’t control to Him as we always have. Thanks for your prayers too!
So like our friend in Mexico City says “Come on down for a visit!”Â
